RED WINES

How do you make your choice in choosing from the hundreds of red wines on offer in today’s market?

There are so many and each one has its very own distinctive taste. it’s a mine field to know which one to pick and what will be suitable for the occasion you require it for, be it for your own dinner party or to take along as a gift for your hosts.

At Australian gifts online we hope that our online wine suppliers makes the decision a little easier for you.

Ok, so where do we start. Firstly what’ s the occasion? and what’s on the menu? If its just for drinks then  you can  serve anything, however some red wines make better aperitifs than others .  There is always the welcoming Beaujolais Nouveaux, a fun wine with the new release out each November or the dignified Canadian ice wines, growing in popularity,  which is strong and sweet and also makes a great dessert wine. Should you  be wanting to take along  a red wine as a gift then a fine Spanish Rioja is always gratefully received.

For wines served with meals,  generally speaking its always best to balance out the wine and grab at least one red wine and one white wine from the wine rack to cater for all tastes and whilst its generally assumed that should you be serving red  meat, then the choice would be a red wine and if fish is on the menu the choice would be a white wine, these days its not always the case, although  a pinot noir with a roast takes a lot of beating.

Lets take a couple of menu ideas for example.

Having  a BBQ  or a spicy meal then choose a Shiraz or Cabernet red wine, whereas for lamb or pork the choice should be a Merlot wine. Should you be serving fowl, you can afford to experiment a little and even go for a sparking red! For a more casual meal, like a pizza or nachos, you can  liven things up a little with a Cabernet Sauvignon or if you’re feeling adventurous try a Barolo red wine, one of Italy’s finest.

Should you be looking for a dessert wine then there are various red wines to choose from, but generally its best to choose a speciality one made from various fruits.   Whichever red wines you choose either for yourself or as a gift, be fearless and try new things, some  you’ll enjoy and others you may not try again for a while, but enjoy the experience, there’s a world of wines out   out there waiting to be tasted.
